My work concerns identity. Focusing on my own cultural heritage, including personal and national identity, it addresses the diverse and interlinked cultures of both Japan and Korea. As a conceptual artist who uses a wide range of media and processes as tools to express my ideas, I am open to new strategic approaches for each new idea, Colour symbolism is important – red and blue as a representation of two countries and purple as a metaphor of myself as a mixture of two primary colours. Classified is a self-portrait, illustrating a process of two colours blending and becoming an indescribable mixed colour. It addresses the society which classifies one’s belonging into a single group, when identity is indefinable.
