Using materials such as yarns, fabrics and found objects I seek to expose deception. I would classify myself as an embroidery artist, creating a tangibility to emotional connections. You Looked Comfortable combines text and embroidery, reflecting upon my personal struggles with Crohn’s Disease and is an insight into the world of chronic illness. With the use of a time-honoured craft I create a juxtaposition between the softness of a material and harsh yet honest statements. My work is cathartic, exposing hidden physical and emotional discomfort behind what the gaze would consider to be comfortable. With a needle and thread, I mend incorrect perception and create a realistic awareness.
