Exploring the boundaries of distortion within the human figure has been a large aspect of my artistic practice. I have been creating a variety of paintings that depict distorted portraits of people I am surrounded by daily. Working from photographs I have composed of each subject matter I have also been able to give each painting a different persona, which in return have allowed me to have a sense of control over the desired effect and emotions that the viewer will experience. My style is based on ‘Bad Painting’ and echoes the work of the early German Expressionists. The relationship between the use of vibrant colours and the extreme facial expressions of the portraits brings an additional level of confusion to the work. which is intended to help the viewer question their own perspective on aspects of emotions as well as how we view the works and ethics that push the boundaries within society.
