My practice is based on paintings which are made on stretched raw canvas, where colour, shape, and form are key concerns. By painting onto raw canvas, I aim to emulate the human touch / skin. I’ve been looking at the blemishes that one obtains throughout life and I’m particularly interested in those of my parents – my work is as much about their endurance throughout their lives as it is about the shapes that left behind by life events, major operations or childbearing. I use shape and form to create map-like graphic images, where colour connects the pieces back to their subject matter based on their colours – for example, blues and purples are veins and so on.
