My artwork originates from a fascination with the materiality of painting and addresses various concerns that fall within this area of study. Investigating the nature of paint as a substance has led to exploration of the different ways that it can be applied to canvas, and allows me to alter the level of control that I have over material. Fragmentation also forms a large part of my work, enabling disruption of the composition, a process that is complimented by a specific palette of fluorescent colour. Each element plays a vital role, producing an outcome that is hard to view and creating a certain irony within the work: a painting that is hard to look at, a painting that concerns painting.
