The development of my work within the last year has seen the intentional bringing together of two distinct languages of painting – the formal abstract space and the representation of the human figure. I’ve been focusing on texture and colour within my paintings, by creating thick linear movements and blending throughout. I achieve this by using heavy body acryllic paint on large scale canvases which I hope will create an intensity. The main subject of the work is the detail within the female form, I try to work with the body in order to get lines and creases that wouldn’t automatically be there, then by focusing in on those areas it creates an abstract, almost unknown image. I make pieces with no filter to them, showing all the imperfections and a realness to how the figure can be encountered rather than the photoshopped ideal you normally see today.
