The Progress of Summer 20126 Gurney Way, Cambridge, Plant Circles.

I made a photographed ephemeral sculptures based on the form of the circle using plant materials during the summer months of June – September 2012. The underlying themes are the cycles of nature and the symbolism of the circle.

I observed the progress of summer in my garden through four plants which I chose because they are abundant and full of colour and memories; Red Campion, Sage, Perennial Cornflower and Dead Nettle.

The earth from my garden is the ‘canvas’ for the transient circles. It is also the ground from which the plants grow and return, representing natural cycles and change. The plants depend on the Earth, as do we; part of the wholeness of the circle on which we live, the planet.
