A-Sexual Spectrum

I look at the way society views gender and their stereotypes. I use my own body as a material to portray a range of characters: male, female or ambiguous. I challenge the stereotypical roles presented and become the ‘canvas’ upon which any gender, or personality, can be shared with the audience.

My degree show piece, ‘A-Sexual Spectrum’, shows this in particular. Its kitsch aesthetic overwhelms the viewer and exploits the inequality found between the ‘masculine’ and the ‘feminine’. My work this year has primarily looked at the reversal of the genders, placing a man in ‘feminine’ scenarios and visa-versa; at times it can intertwines the humorous with the subversive.
