Hi my name is Jo, and this is my portfolio.

My time at the Cambridge School of Art has given me a huge range of skills in order to succeed in the Film and TV industry. Technical, organisational and management skills have all been key elements within each project I have created, and the ability to work as a team has proved a very successful tool whilst studying on this course.

By my second year, I had decided documentary and producing were two areas I hoped to explore further. Hayley Dean and I went on to make ‘Jack: Differently Abled‘, a short observational documentary about a young boy living with cerebral palsy. As well as local press covering the story, we were fortunate enough to be accepted by the BBC to have our film screened on the BBC Fresh website and viewed by a wider audience. The BBC then contacted us to tell us that ‘Jack‘ had been shortlisted to feature on a new BBC Three compilation show.

My third year gave me the opportunity to combine both of my preferred areas of study when I produced and filmed another documentary. Hayley and I worked together again, along with our fantastic editor, Catherine Ashenden, to create ‘A Certain Type of Person‘. Our focus this time was on youth and volunteering, and the rewards and challenges that working with children and adults with additional needs can bring. We worked closely with Grove Cottage, a Mencap organisation in Bishop’s Stortford who work with people of all ages with learning difficulties. It was an incredibly rewarding experience for us, and gave us the chance to work closely with contributors, learning the skills to communicate effectively with everyone involved.
