‘The Doll House’

A vintage inspired, ready-to-wear Women’s Occasionwear collection for Spring/Summer 14.

‘The Doll House’ represents childhood innocence and brings back a slice of the 1950s. Fifties silhouettes are key pieces within this collection by Little Dot; aprons, circle skirts, peter pan collars and conversational prints have all proven inspirational. Disney princesses and fairy tales inspired the feminine features, contrasted with the concept of Brothers Grimm and so-called ‘creepy dolls’.

Following the concept of 1950s conversational prints, vintage items were collected from around the world and many dolls were the subjects for the prints. This idea was inspired by Viktor & Rolf’s doll exhibition and Sears 1950’s Spring/Summer catalogues that showcased children’s dolls.

Alice in Wonderland is another huge inspiration and shines through within ‘The Doll House’. The ‘Mad Hatter’s Tea’ party brought forward the idea of occasionwear, which was important during the ’40s and ’50s. Spring/Summer at The Doll House produces pieces that are both cute and creepy, using a combination of rich fabrics, like silk and chiffon, with prints on light cotton; perfect for day or night and, of course, the best tea parties in town!
